Those that will be illiterate in the 21st century are not those who cannot read but those that cannot learn, unlearn and learn.

Here’s the lowdown from the vef event I went to.
Dick Hardt did his usual talk on the identity 2.0 which was pretty cool. Certainly makes a lot of sense. Will it be sxip tho?
Roland Tanglao spoke about the four “acts” of the Internet. His point is that we are at act 3 which is where people are almost using web 2.0.
Andre Charland showed his awesome AJAX apps.
Michael Fergusson talked about his GLUG general law of universal gravitation.
Geoff Hansen talked about a traditional biz model vs a new model of biz 2.0 which is more about services and what he calls consumer to biz.
His breakout of web 2.0 is…
- service focus
- participation
- scalability
- remixability
- above a single device
- collective intelligence
Paul Kedrosky
- cost of customer aquisition is falling
- cost of infrastructure is falling
- i.e. software is free
- cost of people is falling
- cost of company creation is falling
- cost of venture capital is falling
Paul says web 2.0 is the democratization of technology entrepreneurship. He feels that the many many companies doing web 2.0 is great as he feels that evolution is great.

Jahozafat.com – Seinfeld Quotes all in Wavs & MP3s Sounds
Okay, we’re all used to people spending time doing wacky things, but I appreciate this one. Especially “No soup for you” which I was looking for to send to a friend.

here’s my first blog from my treo. I’m attending an e-learning conference and listening to Curtis Bonk. He’s talking about blogging. 50 million blogs now. Interestingly, many bloggers are women, which to me could be because blogging can be a way to having a voice.

Will free Wi-Fi ‘Supersize’ obesity rate?
Yikes, this is scary – apparently, Nintendo announced today that it will offer free wireless Internet access for its Nintendo DS portable game system at McDonalds restaurants nationwide.

I was talking to my friend about the “third option”, which is basically trades and the lack of people in trades, at least here in Vancouver. Plus the fact that many work related aspects of “white collar” workers will be outsourced in the future. It’s not hard to imagine sending architecture ideas to an architect in India for review. Anyway, wouldn’t it be wild if in 30 years, the people in the community that are lionized and adored as are the tradespeople?
But hey, if that’s the case, then we sure need to get a lot more women involved in this, or it will be a weird kind of 1950’s all over again.

This is a great article that outlines a lot of the thinking around the ways in which information will be shared around. How we actually can understand the vast information out there – by allowing others to guide and recommend thigns. Basically the same way that many of our decisions actually are made – by talking to friends.
Plus, Alex, the article’s author, outlines some additional tools that he uses for more multimedia applications. Frankly, the kind of mashups he describes are not only possible but will become commonplace.

FROM sLASHDOT…
Slashdot: News for nerds, stuff that matters:
‘Mr. Kurzweil… thinking exponentially, imagines a plausible future, not so far away, with extended life-spans (living to 300 will not be unusual), vastly more powerful computers (imagine more computing power in a head-sized device than exists in all the human brains alive today), other miraculous machines (nanotechnology assemblers that can make most anything out of sunlight and dirt) and, thanks to these technologies, enormous increases in wealth (the average person will be capable of feats, like traveling in space, only available to nation-states today).’…..

Another bombing in Indonesia. As someone from Indonesia, it is so upsetting and frustrating to see this. What is the cause of the level of anger people must feel to target innocent people in a bar or cafe?
