Blogging has emerged as a powerful way for organizations to communicate with their constituents. It is second to none in its easy informality and chronological ordering of information that is relevant and timely. Yet many not for profit organizations have a problem using them. Why?
For my clients, many of them are afraid of negative comments and people attacking them, specifically in reference to funders seeing it online. Kind of goes back to the idea that we heard from Van Jones that nfp’s want it to appear that everything is ok. In fact, almost to the point of paralysis. But also, blogging is a skill and takes a well written blog to get people to follow it. Plus it takes time and makes your org vulnerable if you make statements that are not necessarily completely thought out, which can be the case in blogging.
